If you pay a We Energies bill, a decision is close. The state is expected to rule within days on the utility's proposed rate hikes: 9.25% for residential electric in 2027 and 5.5% in 2028. They would be the fifth and sixth hikes in a row.

A typical We Energies bill would climb to $166 a month by 2028

Data centers aren't driving the increase, according to regulators and We Energies. Microsoft's Mount Pleasant campus falls under a separate rate the PSC approved in April for data centers of 100 megawatts or larger. New solar, wind, battery storage and natural gas projects make up $230 million of the increase through 2028.
